Every store is getting a makeover in shades of pink, TV commercials are suddenly full of diamonds and flowers, and “love” is in the air.
That’s right, it’s almost here: V-Day, Valentine’s Day, known to some as Singles Awareness Day.
Don’t worry, singles (or couples who are just looking for an unconventional Valentine’s celebration) - we’ve got you covered. Here are a few of our favorite Valentine’s Day alternatives.
1. Gal-entine’s Day. As made famous by NBC’s Parks and Recreation, we think a Valentine’s Day party focused on ladies celebrating each other is a great way to participate, whether you’re single or not! Take your gals out for a drink or brunch, but don’t forget the chocolates and roses. (Don’t want to leave the boys out in the cold? We think a “Pal-entine’s Day” co-ed party is a great idea too!)
2. Movie marathon. Whether you’re spending the day with your boyfriend, your best friend, or your cat, a movie marathon at home is a great alternative to braving the Valentine’s Day crowds. Pull out the extra buttery popcorn, dim the lights, and let the good times roll.
3. Volunteer. Valentine’s Day is a great day to go out and volunteer at the charity organization of your choice. Even if you’re single, you can still celebrate the holiday of love by spreading some love to others. Who knows? You might even meet someone who shares your values and also didn’t have Valentine’s Day plans.
Whether you spend your day alone or with friends or with your special person, we hope you’ll take some time to show yourself some love!
